MEGA PRIME FOODS RELAUNCHES “SENSES OF THE SEA,” INVESTS IN NEXT GENERATION OF OCEAN AMBASSADORS
STO. TOMAS, BATANGAS, Philippines — September 23, 2026 — Celebrating 51 years of proudly Filipino heritage, Mega Prime Foods Inc. (MPFI) has officially relaunched its flagship educational attraction, “Senses of the Sea,” as part of its continuing commitment to Filipino innovation, responsible fishing, sustainability and ocean stewardship.
Dubbed “The Mega Voyage: Experience the Reimagined Senses of the Sea,” the upgraded facility in Sto. Tomas, Batangas seeks to give students, families and visitors a deeper understanding of where their food comes from—from the ocean and fishermen to food processing, technology, manufacturing and distribution.
The company said the renewed experience is designed not simply as a museum about sardines, but as an educational platform that can help develop a new generation of environmentally conscious ocean ambassadors.
OPENING TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION TO THE PUBLIC
Mega Prime Foods Inc. Founder and Chairman William Tiu Lim said the company is confident in opening its technologies, manufacturing processes and innovations to the public because it wants Filipinos, particularly young people, to see how a homegrown company continues to improve its operations.
Tiu Lim explained that Mega has studied manufacturing facilities in different countries and adopted practices that could strengthen its own production standards.
He said the company cannot remain unchanged for the next 10 years and must continue investing in technology and innovation.
Among the improvements he highlighted were the company's fish pumping system, enhanced fish preservation technology and its Easy Open can innovation.
He said these investments come with additional costs but are necessary to help elevate the Philippine sardines industry and maintain product quality and freshness.
“Being number one comes with a profound responsibility,” Tiu Lim said, emphasizing that leadership requires continuous improvement.
Mega Prime is also working with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through the Tatak Pinoy program as it seeks to strengthen the presence of Filipino-made products in international markets.
BUILDING A FILIPINO BRAND FOR THE WORLD
For Marvin Tiu Lim, Chief Growth and Development Officer of Mega Prime Foods Inc., the company's vision goes beyond expanding distribution.
“For me, it’s more than distribution. It’s about our Filipino pride that’s at stake,” he said.
Lim highlighted Mega's connection to the fishing industry and its efforts to maintain responsible practices, including compliance with fishing bans designed to help protect fish stocks and marine resources.
He also highlighted the company's 12-hour catch-to-can process, which aims to bring fish from the sea to the can within 12 hours to help preserve freshness.
Beyond its products, Lim pointed to Mega's investments in Filipino manufacturing capabilities, including the construction of its own ships, production of equipment and components, and manufacturing of its own cans.
He said Mega manages various stages of its value chain, from catching and processing fish to packing, distribution and sales.
According to Lim, these capabilities demonstrate the potential of Filipino workers, engineers and entrepreneurs to develop products and systems capable of competing globally.
He encouraged young Filipinos to recognize the capabilities of local industries and the opportunities that can be created through Filipino innovation.
TARGETING 50,000 STUDENTS EVERY YEAR
Michelle Tiu Lim-Chan, CEO of Mega Prime Foods Inc., said the company hopes to welcome at least 50,000 students annually to the Senses of the Sea museum as it expands the facility's potential as an educational tourism destination.
She said the museum is intended to help young visitors understand where their food comes from and appreciate the roles played by the ocean, fishermen, workers, scientists, engineers and other people involved in the food-production process.
The experience also introduces visitors to sustainability, responsible fishing, food safety, technology and manufacturing.
“Our ambition is eventually to welcome 50,000 students each year and more,” Lim-Chan said.
She also called for stronger collaboration with tour operators and government agencies, including the DTI, Department of Tourism (DOT), and Department of Education (DepEd), to integrate Senses of the Sea into educational tourism circuits.
Lim-Chan said tour operators have played an important role in bringing students and families to the museum over the past three years, and the company now hopes to expand its reach beyond Metro Manila to other parts of the country.
For her, Senses of the Sea is more than a museum.
It is envisioned as a “classroom outside the classroom, a celebration of Filipino excellence, and a way of giving back to the next generation.”
MEGA’S LEGACY AND THE RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT THE SEA
Lance Chan, a third-generation representative of the Mega family, emphasized that the company's legacy is closely connected to the future of the ocean.
Speaking during the relaunch, Chan said Mega's legacy should not only be measured by what the company has received from the sea, but also by how it helps protect marine resources for future generations.
“I hope you leave here understanding that Mega’s legacy is not only about what we have received from the sea, but also about how we protect it for generations to come,” Chan said.
As a member of the third generation of the Mega family, Chan said carrying the company's legacy also means honoring what previous generations built while continuing efforts to care for the oceans and marine resources.
He encouraged guests and participants to carry the message of ocean stewardship beyond the event.
“Thank you, and enjoy the festival by the sea,” he said.
EDUCATING FUTURE OCEAN AMBASSADORS
The reimagined Senses of the Sea brings together Mega Prime Foods' history, Filipino fishing heritage, manufacturing technology, sustainability initiatives and commitment to responsible use of marine resources.
The company hopes that students who visit the facility will develop greater curiosity about where their food comes from and gain appreciation for Filipino workers, fishermen, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and communities involved in the country's food industry.
Mega Prime Foods said the initiative is ultimately about connecting the next generation with the sea while demonstrating how Filipino innovation and industry can contribute to a more sustainable future.
Through the relaunch of Senses of the Sea, Mega Prime Foods seeks to transform its corporate heritage into an educational experience—one that celebrates the company's Filipino roots while encouraging visitors to become more conscious stewards of the ocean that sustains communities and industries.
