RD LUCAS LEADS DESTRUCTION OF CONFISCATED ILLEGAL FIRECRACKERS IN CALABARZON
CAMP BGEN VICENTE P. LIM, CALABARZON — Police Regional Office CALABARZON Regional Director Paul Kenneth T. Lucas led a media presentation and the destruction of confiscated illegal firecrackers, underscoring the intensified regional campaign against the sale, manufacture, and distribution of prohibited pyrotechnic devices.
During the press briefing held at Camp BGen Vicente P. Lim, PBGen Lucas reported that from December 16 to the present, PRO CALABARZON conducted a total of 238 police operations. These operations resulted in the arrest of 12 suspects and the confiscation of assorted illegal firecrackers valued at ₱4,803,398.00, seized by various police operating units across the region.
PBGen Lucas also presented data on firecracker-related incidents, noting that five individuals are currently undergoing medical treatment due to injuries caused by firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices. In addition, one incident involving the illegal discharge of a firearm was recorded, with the suspect now in police custody and facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Following the briefing, members of the media witnessed the destruction of confiscated illegal firecrackers at the PRO CALABARZON covered court. The destroyed items included piccolo, five-star, whistle bombs, kwitis, sawa, assorted pyrotechnics, goodbye contractor, and improvised cannons or “boga.” Separately, the Regional Explosive and Canine Unit 4A carried out the safe disposal of other confiscated firecrackers through controlled detonation at the PRO 4A Grandstand.
PBGen Lucas expressed his appreciation to police operatives and community partners for their cooperation in the successful operations. He reiterated his appeal to the public to help ensure a safe and orderly celebration by avoiding illegal firecrackers and reporting any information related to the illegal trade of hazardous pyrotechnic materials.
