Police urged to arrest illegal numbers game in QC
Quezon City Police are reportedly not arresting those involved in the rampant illegal numbers game because a high-ranking official of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) allegedly sanctions it.
In a letter from the complainants, Renante P. Flores and Guela Paragas, they revealed the alleged widespread and illegal operation of the Micesa 8 Gaming, even without a permit from the City Hall.
The letter of complaint from the two, addressed to the offices of the PCSO, MalacaƱang, DILG, and Mayor Joy Belmonte, expressed concern over the alleged enticement by the people behind Micesa 8 Gaming for their children to become "bet collectors" for the illegal gambling, which they referred to as jueteng due to its lack of a license.
"Our concern is for the welfare of our children because we know the police will arrest them since those running Micesa 8 Gaming are not showing any permit and also have no proof that their operation is legal," stated Flores and Paragas.
According to the two: "We are not new to the field of gambling, especially STL here in Quezon City.
We know that a permit from the PCSO is required, that the personnel of Micesa 8 Gaming should have IDs and a vest or uniform.
There should be legitimate routes and there should be a legitimate draw court, and there should be actual PCSO personnel who draw the game."
They added that it is also necessary to strictly prohibit allowing minors to place bets, which they said is not being followed by these illegal kubrador (collectors), just like other unobserved requirements, such as having a resolution from the Quezon City Council.
"Aside from this, we also know that the PCSO distributes aid to our poor from the collections if the STL is legitimate, but what Micesa 8 Gaming is doing is not legitimate because they don't have money to help the poor," lamented the two complainants.
They also pointed out the alleged safe haven for those operating the illegal gambling on Annapolis Street in Brgy. Rodriguez Sr. and on Westpoint Street, where the collectors arrange and submit the betting slips.
