"NEW DIVERSION ROAD IN CALAUAN, LAGUNA: 30 METERS WIDE, 11 KILOMETERS LONG, SOON FOR A TOURISM ROAD PROJECT'S "

Calauan, Laguna – Mayor Osel Caratihan has officially announced the completion approval of a major infrastructure project in the town of Calauan — a new 11-kilometer diversion road, 30 meters wide, designed to ease traffic congestion and boost the local economy through tourism and trade.
The project, which was recently given the green light by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), is a collaborative effort between the Local Government of Calauan, private investors, and business tycoon Ramon Ang, CEO and Chairman of San Miguel Corporation (SMC). Remarkably, no funds from the LGU will be used, as the initiative will be supported primarily by the private sector.

According to Mayor Caratihan, the diversion road is envisioned to provide an alternative route that will significantly reduce travel time for motorists passing through the municipality. Currently, heavy traffic flow forces residents and travelers to seek faster connections through nearby towns. The new road will not only ease this problem but also serve as a gateway to Calauan’s tourism destinations.
Calauan, known for its picturesque landscapes and natural hot spring resorts, is expected to see an increase in tourist arrivals once the project is completed. The road is also being positioned as a strategic location for future food hubs, given the town’s agricultural strength and scenic surroundings that can attract both local and foreign visitors.

Mayor Caratihan emphasized that the project aligns with the town’s long-term development goals. “This road project will serve as a lifeline for our economy, especially for tourism and agribusiness. With the support of our private partners, we are confident that Calauan will become a new hub of progress in Laguna,” he said.
Construction is expected to begin soon, with the target completion date set for 2027. Once finished, the diversion road is anticipated to bring lasting benefits not only to Calauan residents but also to the entire province, as it opens up opportunities for investment, trade, and sustainable tourism development.
