"Laguna Declares Readiness to Boost Agriculture Sector – Administrator Pelayo"
SANTA CRUZ, Laguna – With a renewed commitment to empower local farmers and revitalize rural economies, Laguna Provincial Administrator Jerry Pelayo declared that the province is now fully ready to elevate its agricultural sector to new heights.
In a recent statement, Pelayo emphasized that the provincial government under the leadership of Governor Sol Aragones is prioritizing agriculture as a cornerstone of Laguna’s sustainable development. “We are not just preparing — we are ready. Laguna is set to become a strong player in agricultural productivity,” he affirmed.
According to Pelayo, various programs and support mechanisms are now in place to assist farmers, fisherfolk, and agripreneurs. These include infrastructure projects such as farm-to-market roads, irrigation systems, and cold storage facilities aimed at reducing post-harvest losses and improving market access.
The province has also partnered with national agencies and private stakeholders to provide training, seeds, equipment, and access to financing for small farmers. “We want to ensure that our farmers are not left behind in terms of technology and opportunities,” Pelayo added.
Laguna’s strategic location and diverse agricultural landscape make it an ideal site for agri-industrial growth. From rice and vegetable farming in upland areas to aquaculture and high-value crops in lowlands, the province is leveraging its full potential.
Pelayo also pointed out the importance of youth participation in agriculture. Through the "Agri-preneurship" initiatives, young Lagunenses are being encouraged to explore modern farming practices and sustainable agribusiness models. “We are cultivating a new generation of farmers who are tech-savvy and innovative,” he said.
The provincial administrator lauded the support of Governor Aragones in championing agriculture, noting that her administration is working closely with municipal and barangay officials to ensure that interventions reach the grassroots level.
Aside from economic gains, the province’s agricultural push also supports food security and environmental protection. Pelayo shared that the province is adopting climate-resilient farming practices to safeguard livelihoods against extreme weather and natural disasters.
With these efforts in place, Pelayo expressed confidence that Laguna will not only be a hub for agriculture in CALABARZON but also a model for other provinces in inclusive and progressive rural Development. (Roy Tomandao)
