UPHS LAGUNA SETS ITS SIGHTS ON THE NEXT 50 YEARS OF OPENING DOORS

BIÑAN, LAGUNA — September 18, 2026 — Fifty years after its founding, the University of Perpetual Help System JONELTA–Laguna (UPHS Laguna) is looking beyond its Golden Jubilee with an ambitious goal: to reach more Filipino families, expand into new communities and markets, and double the number of students it serves within the next five years.

UPHS Laguna marks its 50th Anniversary today at its flagship campus in Biñan, Laguna, celebrating five decades of education, healthcare, character formation, and community service while renewing its commitment to the next generation of Filipino students and professionals.

Founded in 1976, UPHS Laguna has grown from its early beginnings into a multi-campus system serving communities across the Philippines. The institution remains anchored in its founding principle, “Character Building is Nation Building,” and its commitment to providing Filipino families with opportunities to build better futures through education.

MARK CARLO TAMAYO: LOOKING AHEAD TO THE NEXT 50 YEARS

In his message, Mark Carlo Tamayo, Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP) of the University of Perpetual Help System JONELTA, emphasized the institution's direction as it enters the next 50 years.
The statement underscores the institution's continuing commitment to expanding access to quality education, strengthening its programs and services, and reaching more Filipino families and communities.

Led by UPHS Laguna and the University of Perpetual Help DJGT Medical University, the entire system currently serves more than 30,000 students, with its allied health programs producing strong results in national board examinations.

EXPANDING ACCESS TO EDUCATION
As UPHS Laguna enters its next chapter, growth is not viewed as an end in itself. The institution intends to expand its reach to Filipino families and communities it has yet to serve, including areas where Perpetual Help does not currently have a presence.
The five-year direction will focus on expanding educational opportunities while continuing to strengthen the quality of instruction, professional preparation, character formation, and services offered to students.
The university also recognizes that students come from different academic disciplines and pursue diverse professional paths. Through its programs and activities, UPHS Laguna seeks to prepare graduates not only for their chosen careers but also for the responsibilities that come with becoming professionals and contributing members of society.

CONTINUING COMMUNITY SERVICE
The university's commitment to service also extends beyond the classroom.
UPHS Laguna continues to conduct medical missions throughout the year, providing healthcare assistance to communities and sectors in need.

Other outreach activities include community packing and feeding programs, training initiatives, and activities conducted in different centers and communities.
These initiatives reflect the institution's belief that education and healthcare must be complemented by meaningful engagement with the communities it serves.
LOOKING BEYOND THE GOLDEN JUBILEE
The 50th Anniversary is both a celebration of UPHS Laguna's accomplishments and a starting point for its next chapter.
After five decades of opening doors to education and opportunity, the institution is setting its sights on reaching more Filipino families, developing new communities of learners, and strengthening its contribution to Philippine society.
Its vision for the coming years is anchored on sustainable growth—expanding access while maintaining the values and standards that have defined Perpetual Help for five decades.
As UPHS Laguna looks toward its next 50 years, the institution remains committed to its enduring mission: building character, developing competent professionals, serving communities, and opening doors to better opportunities for generations of Filipinos.
