CONGRESSWOMAN ANN MATIBAG ADDRESSES QUESTIONS ON INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS IN LAGUNA’S FIRST DISTRICT
SAN PEDRO CITY, LAGUNA — Congresswoman Ann Matibag has issued a statement addressing questions raised by Congressman Paolo Duterte regarding infrastructure projects in Laguna’s First District following the disclosure of findings by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in connection with its investigation into flood control projects in Davao City.
Congresswoman Matibag clarified that she has no role in directing, conducting, or speaking on behalf of any NBI investigation.
She likewise emphasized that NBI Director Melvin Matibag has no role in the operations of her congressional office.
“We are husband and wife, but our public responsibilities are separate,” Matibag said, stressing that questions regarding the conduct and direction of any NBI investigation should be addressed directly to the Bureau.
Matibag further stated that if Congressman Duterte possesses documents, videos, or other evidence indicating possible irregularities involving projects within her district, these should be submitted to the appropriate authorities, together with specific details identifying the projects concerned.
She said her office is prepared to cooperate fully in securing official records and in any lawful investigation.
“My position is simple: apply the same standards everywhere, examine the official records, and follow the evidence. I will neither shield anyone found responsible for wrongdoing nor pass judgment without facts and due process,” Matibag said.
According to the congresswoman, the investigation involving flood control projects in Davao City should proceed based on its own evidence, while any concerns regarding infrastructure projects in San Pedro City, Laguna should likewise be examined independently and on the basis of their own facts and records.
She cautioned against allowing separate issues to be conflated, emphasizing that each allegation should be evaluated through the proper investigative and legal processes.
Matibag said the focus should remain on the fundamental questions surrounding the use of public funds and implementation of government projects: Were the projects properly delivered? Were public funds lawfully used? And who, if anyone, should be held accountable?
She added that she would not engage in a continuing public exchange that could distract from these substantive questions.
“Let the records, the evidence, and the proper investigative processes establish the truth,” Matibag said.
Congresswoman Matibag said the statement would be her only response regarding the matter.
