SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna – A new chapter for youth development and community sports officially began with the inauguration and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the YMCA San Pablo Multi-Sports Green Court, attended by local leaders, international YMCA officials, educators, and youth advocates.
The event opened with a blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony led by YMCA of San Pablo Vice President Patr. Bobs Jr. Bieles Artajo, symbolizing the official opening of the facility designed to promote sportsmanship, youth engagement, and community development.
Strengthening Community Partnerships
In her acknowledgment message, Kristy Sumague, GS/CEO of YMCA of San Pablo, expressed gratitude to the community partners and supporters who helped make the project possible.
According to Sumague, the new multi-sports court represents more than just a sports facility. “This court symbolizes hope, opportunity, and a safe space for our youth to grow, learn discipline, and build character through sports. The YMCA remains committed to nurturing young leaders and empowering communities,” she said.

YMCA Leadership Welcomes New Milestone
Felipe M. Valenzuela III, President of YMCA of San Pablo, highlighted the importance of investing in youth programs and sports development.

He noted that the facility will serve as a venue for training, competitions, and leadership programs aimed at guiding young people toward positive and productive activities.
“Sports is a powerful tool to inspire youth, build teamwork, and strengthen communities. Through this facility, we aim to continue the YMCA mission of developing the mind, body, and spirit of every young person we serve,” Valenzuela said.
Governor Aragones Supports Youth and Sports Development Laguna Governor Sol Aragones represent by Mr Doland Castro Akay ni.Sol/Akay National Political Party Sec.Gen.q also expressed strong support for initiatives that promote youth empowerment through sports and education.
In her message, the governor emphasized the importance of creating safe and supportive environments where young people can thrive.
“Facilities like this multi-sports court provide opportunities for our youth to discover their talents, develop discipline, and stay away from negative influences. The provincial government fully supports programs that build a healthier and stronger Laguna,” Aragones said.

International YMCA Leaders Express Support
Leaders from the global YMCA community also attended the ceremony and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening youth programs.
Suzanne McCormick, President and CEO of YMCA of the USA, praised the local YMCA chapter for its dedication to youth development.

She emphasized that initiatives like the Green Court reflect the YMCA’s global mission of empowering communities and nurturing young leaders.
Meanwhile, Lauren Koontz, President and CEO of YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta, highlighted the importance of collaboration among YMCA organizations worldwide to expand opportunities for youth through sports and leadership programs.
Support from Education and Youth Leaders
Dr. Theresa Kamatay, Principal of Prudencia D. Fule Memorial Elementary School, expressed appreciation for programs that provide students with opportunities to grow both academically and physically.
She noted that sports play a vital role in developing discipline, confidence, and teamwork among young learners.
For his part, Orlando Carreon, Secretary General of YMCA Philippines and National General Secretary of YMCA Manila, underscored the role of YMCA centers across the country in building stronger communities through youth programs and sports initiatives.
Youth Leadership and Inspiration
Youth leader Ian Sherwin D. Sumague, Founder of the YMCA Basketball Club and Youth Board Director, shared how basketball programs under YMCA have helped shape young athletes and future leaders.
“Sports teach values that last a lifetime—discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. This new court will help inspire more young people to pursue their dreams,” he said.
Recognizing Partners and Alumni
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to partners and supporters by Joan P. De Guia, Administrative Assistant of YMCA San Pablo, recognizing their contributions to the successful completion of the facility.
A testimonial from Gian Marcus Mendoza, an alumnus of the YMCA Basketball Training Program, highlighted how YMCA initiatives helped shape his personal and athletic development.
Launch of YMCA Basketball Programs
The event concluded with a showcase of YMCA basketball programs featuring youth team warm-ups, skills demonstrations, and an interactive moment with guests.
The ceremony also marked the official kickoff of the YMCA Inaugural Basketball League, aimed at further promoting sportsmanship, leadership, and healthy competition among young athletes.
Through the newly inaugurated Multi-Sports Green Court, YMCA San Pablo continues its mission of empowering youth, strengthening communities, and fostering values through sports and leadership programs.
