"Rep. Ann Matibag Expresses Full Support for Gov. Sol Aragones; Vows to Champion Health and Education in Laguna"
SANTA CRUZ, Laguna — During the oath-taking ceremony of Laguna Governor Sol Aragones, First District Representative Ann Matibag delivered a heartfelt message, expressing her unwavering support for the newly-installed provincial leader.
Rep. Matibag commended Governor Aragones’ compassion and firm commitment to public service, particularly in health and education. She pledged to advance programs aimed at uplifting the lives of Lagunenses, especially the youth and underprivileged sectors.
She underscored the importance of prioritizing public healthcare and educational support, citing programs such as Scholar ni Lagunanay, which assist hardworking students facing financial difficulties but are determined to uplift their families through education.
“In San Pedro, we must give attention not only to honor students but also to diligent learners who dream of a better future for their families,” Matibag said. “Every struggling student in Laguna should feel that we are here for them.”
Matibag also expressed admiration for Governor Aragones’ proactive leadership. Even before officially assuming office, Aragones had already begun working and temporarily operated out of a private location in San Pedro with the help of local officials.
Emotion filled the congresswoman’s voice as she shared her long-standing advocacy to improve the San Pedro District Hospital. She reaffirmed her full commitment to securing national funding for the hospital’s modernization and revealed her active coordination with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
“I told Ate Sol, ‘Leave the San Pedro District Hospital budget to me,’” Matibag declared. “We have the full support of the national government to realize this vision.”
Rep. Matibag also shared a personal story: in 2019, her husband, former PDP Secretary-General Atty. Melvin Matibag, predicted that Sol Aragones would one day become the governor of Laguna.
“He said, ‘Sol will be the next governor of Laguna,’ and today, that vision has come true. This is not just about winning — it’s about hope, compassion, and relentless public service,” Matibag shared.
She also addressed the viral posters in government hospitals bearing the message “Bawal ang masungit” (No to grumpiness), a campaign initiated by Governor Aragones. For Matibag, the campaign goes beyond promoting smiles.
“It’s not just about smiling,” she emphasized. “It’s about dignity. Every patient and every healthcare worker deserves to be respected and cared for.”
Matibag praised Governor Aragones’ swift and people-centered leadership. “From day one, she already had a plan. That’s true leadership,” she said.
In closing, Rep. Matibag assured the people of Laguna that the First District stands united with Governor Aragones’ goals and vision.
“As a mother and a public servant, I know that genuine leadership requires compassion, direction, and strong allies — and that is exactly what Ate Sol brings to Laguna.”
She ended her message with words of gratitude and inspiration:
“Long live every health worker, every patient, every Scholar ni Lagunanay! Long live every Lagunense family. Long live our governor — our very own Sol Aragones!”
