Santa Rosa City Mayor Arlene Arcillas together with attendees to the 12th Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development in Thailand held at last February 24-27, 2025.
SANTA ROSA CITY--Mayor Arlene B. Arcillas was honored with the opportunity to showcase the City of Santa Rosa’s Voluntary Local Review (VLR) at the 12th Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), held on February 24-27, 2025, at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Headquarters in Thailand.
This prestigious platform allowed Santa Rosa to highlight its pioneering efforts in localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and advancing sustainable urban development.
Accompanied by the VLR Task Working Group, Mayor Arlene participated in key discussions, including the Local and Regional Government Assembly: Advancing Multilevel Collaboration for SDG Localization, and Maximizing Local Impact: SDG Localization and Inclusive Action in Southeast Asia.
These sessions provided an opportunity for Santa Rosa to showcase its VLR process, achievements, and strategies in integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into local governance.
Santa Rosa’s Voluntary Local Review represents a significant step in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the local level. It underscores the city’s strong commitment to aligning global goals with local policies and programs, addressing urban challenges, and unlocking new opportunities for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
The Santa Rosa VLR is set to be finalized by the end of 2025, ensuring that it serves as a comprehensive and widely disseminated reference, particularly during APFSD 2025 in Bangkok last February 2025 and the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York in July 2025.
More than just a milestone for Santa Rosa, this initiative will contribute valuable insights to the country’s Voluntary National Review (VNR) and serve as a model for other cities in the Philippines.
Santa Rosa is one of the select UNESCAP-supported cities in Asia and the Pacific to develop a VLR, alongside: Jakarta Provincial Government & Surabaya City (Indonesia), Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory & Subang Jaya City (Malaysia), Nakhon Si Thammarat & Udon Thani (Thailand), City of Melbourne (Australia), Suva City (Fiji), and Cities in Japan
By taking the global stage at APFSD 2025, Santa Rosa reaffirms its role as a leader in sustainable urban development, setting an example for other cities in the region and beyond.
