Calamba City, Laguna, May 28, 2024 – In a landmark move to bolster regional infrastructure, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) IV-A has announced a substantial allocation of Php 200 billion for the construction of 5.22 kilometers of inter-jurisdictional roads and bridges. This significant announcement was made by Engr. Jovel G. Mendoza, CESO III, the DPWH Calabarzon Regional Director, at the “Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas” event hosted by the Philippine Information Agency IV-A.
Mendoza elaborated on the scope and impact of the project under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s “Build. Better. More.” program, emphasizing its critical role in enhancing connectivity and accessibility across the region.
“The basic infrastructure program is set to include the construction of access roads and bridges from national roads to major or strategic public buildings,” Mendoza told The Balita Ngayon online News
This initiative has been allocated a budget of Php 6.3 billion, he said, which will cover a total of 548.35 kilometers of roads and bridges. He said these developments are particularly aimed at improving connectivity for indigenous communities, with a specific target of 0.38 kilometers and a budget of Php 15 million.

“The inter-jurisdictional roads and bridges project, a key component of the broader infrastructure strategy, has been allocated Php 15 million for the construction of 1.65 kilometers in 2024,” he added, saying that this project is expected to significantly enhance the mobility and economic integration of various jurisdictions within the Calabarzon region. “These milestones only demonstrate our dedication to a brighter future for our beloved region,” Mendoza stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering development and improving the quality of life in Calabarzon.

In addition to the new projects, Mendoza addressed the ongoing road maintenance efforts, particularly important as the region enters the rainy season. The DPWH has intensified its road maintenance activities, with crews working diligently even on weekends. These efforts include inspecting and repairing road damages, cleaning bridges, managing roadside vegetation, and clearing silt from the drainage systems of national highways. These maintenance activities are crucial to ensuring the safety and functionality of the region's infrastructure, especially in the aftermath of Typhoon Aghon.

He said the DPWH’s proactive measures are designed to mitigate the adverse effects of the rainy season, ensuring that the roads and bridges remain safe and passable for motorists and the general public. The maintenance crews are dedicated to keeping the infrastructure in optimal condition, reflecting the department’s commitment to providing reliable and safe transportation networks.

Mendoza also underscored the importance of these initiatives in supporting the economic growth and development of the region. Improved infrastructure facilitates better access to markets, services, and opportunities, thereby contributing to the overall socio-economic progress of Calabarzon. The projects are expected to create jobs, stimulate local economies, and enhance the quality of life for residents.

The announcement at PIA’s “Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas” event underscores the Philippine government’s strategic focus on infrastructure development as a key driver of economic growth. By investing in critical infrastructure projects, the DPWH aims to build a more connected, resilient, and prosperous Calabarzon region.

As the projects move forward, continuous collaboration between the DPWH, local government units, and other stakeholders will be essential to ensure their successful implementation and sustainability. The public can look forward to significant improvements in the region’s infrastructure, paving the way for enhanced mobility, economic opportunities, and overall development.
