CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — In a passionate plea for environmental conservation, Senator Imee Marcos emphasized the importance of protecting and enriching the biodiversity of Laguna de Bay. The senator expressed her concerns over the dwindling fish population in the Philippines, particularly in Laguna, due to overfishing practices.
During her address at the 15th Commencement Exercises of the City College of Calamba in Calamba City, Laguna, where she served as the Guest Commencement Speaker alongside Calamba City Mayor Ross Rizal, Senator Marcos urged the public to learn from the example set by those who care for the lake and regulate fishing activities.
"Laguna de Bay serves as a crucial ecosystem that needs our protection. We must work together to ensure the sustainability of our fish population and the overall health of the lake," Senator Marcos stated.
The senator highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Provincial Government, Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), and Department of Agriculture (DA) in supporting local fishermen, emphasizing the importance of responsible fishing practices and sustainable management of resources.
Senator Imee Marcos's call to action resonated with the audience, which included 549 graduates of the City College of Calamba. She stressed the significance of community involvement in safeguarding the environment and encouraged everyone to take part in the conservation efforts for Laguna de Bay.
As concerns grow over the future of the lake and its ecosystem, Senator Marcos's advocacy for environmental stewardship serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect and nurture our natural resources for future generations.
